Development Manager

The Development Manager is responsible for managing the organization’s fundraising initiatives with a focus on fundraising operations. This position also entails responsibilities in the general fundraising initiatives as well. Based in Washington, DC, this position will require occasional travel. The Development Manager will report to the VP, Development & Programs. 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Fundraising Operations

·        Fundraising Status and Proposal Tracking: Manage the fundraising status tracker/database to ensure an accurate account and forecast of funds received. Ensure it is updated on a weekly basis via the weekly Development team meeting. Capture and disseminate all to do items to the Development team immediately following the weekly meeting – both for current funders and prospects. Assist the VP of Development and Programs in maintaining team accountability.

·        Proposal Submission: Manage the proposal submission process for existing accounts under the direction of a Director of Development, including populating the template request information and attaching all requested documents. Ensure content is copy edited, submitted on time and checked for accuracy, according to the Director’s direction. Provide support to Directors for new account proposals. Periodically update and refresh all template language to ensure it is up to date.

·        Donor Reports: Manage the online report submission process under the direction of a Director of Development. Work together with the Development and Programs Associate to provide required reporting information to donors. Ensure information shared communicates the impact we are making against our mission and how it relates to the funder’s key objectives.

·        Donor Stewardship: Manage the acknowledgement letter process by providing direction to the Development and Programs Associate. Ensure they are completed in a timely, accurate and consistent manner.

·        Scholarship Tracking: Coordinate with the Scholarships Team to ensure donor requirements are always up to date and ensure adherence to internal and external timelines for confirmation.


Executive Management

·        Board Meetings: Provide support to the leadership team around the management and execution of annual board meetings and communications. This is including but not limited to logistics, note-taking and direct communication to members of the Board of Directors.

·        Support of VP of Development and Programs and Executive Director: Provide support as needed related to reporting and operations of the Development team and VIP/Board level communications.


Professionalism and Teamwork

·        Support interdepartmental collaboration, contribute to a culture of transparency, teamwork, openness to suggestions and constructive criticism

·        Encourage relationship-driven vision among all staff and departments

·        Take initiative to reach goals creatively and maintains discipline of tasks

·        Take initiative to enroll in trainings, webinars, and pursue further resources to improve skills and knowledge based in accordance with budget

·        Ensure work product meets needs of organization

·        Team with other staff to support major events

·        Ensure that project/department goals are met and adhering to approved budgets as designated by the Chief Operating Officer.
