Director, Pro Bono Initiatives

The Director of Pro Bono Initiatives will be responsible for developing and overseeing L4GG’s pro bono programs.

L4GG is a growing organization that prides itself on being able to rapidly respond to emerging legal needs with flexible programs that scale quickly. The Director of Pro Bono Initiatives will be in charge of increasing the impact of each of our ongoing programs by leveraging pro bono volunteers from solos, large law firms, and corporate legal departments. This person will also respond to emerging legal needs by creating new pro bono programs as necessary.

Specific job responsibilities include:

  • Manage and optimize L4GG’s existing pro bono programs; meet regularly with L4GG program staff to understand how pro bono volunteers can best serve clients and advance program goals.
  • When legal needs emerge, design, launch, and scale new pro bono programs in consultation with program staff and Executive Director.
  • Develop and manage relationships with law firms, corporate legal departments, and other organizations to generate support for and increase the impact of L4GG’s work.
  • Strategically market volunteer opportunities and match pro bono volunteers to specific matters.
  • Utilize technology to streamline marketing opportunities, match volunteers, provide training, and deliver pro bono legal services.
  • Working with L4GG staff and other subject matter experts, develop and execute relevant trainings, clinics, and other pro bono opportunities.
  • Oversee volunteer recognition activities.
  • Develop and manage benchmarks and metrics to ensure goals are met or exceeded.
  • Assist with grant and other reporting obligations as needed.

The ideal candidate will have top-notch interpersonal skills, judgment, and the ability to work and thrive in a fast-paced environment. We need someone who can work independently with a strong sense of urgency and take initiative to identify and resolve challenges.  Must have access to a quiet workspace (home office or other space) with high-speed internet and the ability to take calls and/or video conferences during working hours. 

REQUIREMENTS:

Required qualifications include:

  • Self-starter who is creative, thoughtful, media and tech savvy
  • Member in good standing of at least one state bar with at least five years of legal experience
  • A demonstrable commitment to pro bono, serving low-income communities, and advancing equity and racial justice is required
  • Ability to work autonomously as well as collaborate and work well with a team
  • Exceptionally strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Proven ability to lead multiple projects simultaneously
  • Experience using Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Google Drive
  • Experience using Mac computers
  • Exceptional technology comfort and competence including willingness to embrace new tools and self-train using provided resources as needed
  • Consistent attention to detail 
  • Strong ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and escalate issues to ED as appropriate

Desired qualifications include:

  • Prior experience in a large law firm or in-house legal department is strongly preferred but not required
  • Spanish language skills are desired, but not required
  • Experience with any or all of the following digital tools are desired, but not required: Airtable, Action Network, Zapier, GoToWebinar, GrooveHQ, Slack
