The Center for Community Alternatives (CCA) is a leader in the field of community-based alternatives to incarceration through advocacy, services and public policy development in pursuit of civil and human rights.

Job Summary: The Development and Communications Associate will be responsible for developing and maintaining a portfolio of corporate and foundation funders including conducting prospect research and managing the proposal development process from start to submission in conjunction with management, fiscal and program staff (50%). The position is also responsible for communications including developing website content, managing social media, and drafting press releases and promotional materials, such as participant stories and photos that document the work of the Center for Community Alternatives (50%). The position is based in Brooklyn, New York, with occasional travel to Syracuse, Rochester and Albany.

Grant Writing Responsibilities:

·        Performing the full range of activities required to prepare, submit and manage grant proposals to foundation and corporate sources.

·        Conducting research on foundations and corporations to evaluate potential prospects for private grants.

·        Complying with all grant reporting as required by foundations/corporate donors.

·        Providing stewardship/regular written updates to foundation and corporate funders.

·        Researching and analyzing program-related research and demographic data to strengthen proposals.

·        Representing the Center for Community Alternatives (CCA) at foundation and corporate events.

·        Developing an in depth understanding of all programs and keeping informed with current issues and trends.

Communication Responsibilities:

·        Maintaining CCA website and developing new content including writing new stories, creating new pages and soliciting updates from programs/departments.

·        Monitoring CCA’s social media and online presence.

·        Writing content and designing promotional materials including press releases, brochures, fact sheets and newsletters/annual reports.

·        Conducting regular participant and program staff interviews including photos to be used on the website, social media and other promotional materials.

·        Ensuring social media and marketing materials are uniform across the agency.

·        Assisting with fundraising events.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience. Excellent communication skills both verbal and written. Experience managing websites and social media. Prior experience in non-profit fundraising/grant writing and/or communications preferred. Candidates should feel comfortable socializing and networking (both online and through more traditional methods) as well as in assertively advocating for funding to support programs and services for youth, adults and families involved in or at risk of involvement in the criminal justice system.
