About the Position

 Reporting to the Communications Director, the Social Media Strategist is both an analytical thinker and a creative storyteller who will oversee growing GSO’s social media program, develop social and website marketing strategies and content with the goal of making our campaigns more strategic to reach diverse audiences. The successful candidate will also be a strong relationship builder adept at working with internal teams and external partners (grantees, community organizations and elected officials) to source and shape content. This is an exciting opportunity for a self-driven individual with a passion for growing and maintaining a brand voice across various channels and platforms.

Location: Remote, based in California, Los Angeles or the Bay Area preferred. 

Candidates must be able to work from home and feel comfortable frequently engaging with colleagues and partners by phone, video conference, email, Slack, Asana, and other digital communications tools and platforms.

Start Date: Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. The position will be filled as soon as possible.

Responsibilities

 -Develop a data-driven social media strategy that delivers measurable results with an eye toward continuous learning and improvement.

-Manage day-to-day social media operations, including maintaining the social media calendar, creating and posting content, and monitoring commenting. Current platforms are Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, Instagram with interest in expanding to other platforms such as TikTok and Clubhouse.

-Work with Graphic Designer to develop shareable, engaging content for social media that promotes key messages and information.

-Collaborate with both internal and external stakeholders to develop and execute a social media strategy that shapes discourse towards poverty as a solvable problem. -Continuously monitor and analyze the social media program to generate a strong understanding of our audiences, the social media landscape, and opportunities to expand our impact.

-Provide weekly reporting on key metrics, key learnings, and actionable insights.

-Provide coaching and develop guidance that helps GSO grantees, partners and the broader community leverage social media to educate and mobilize around ending poverty.

-Coordinate across departments to support online fundraising and advocacy campaigns with social media strategy for online fundraising and advocacy and advise on list acquisition and management as needed.

 Skills and Experience

 -Experience in a deadline-driven campaign and/or social justice/advocacy environment/organization.

-Lived and/or direct experience working with people and communities from diverse cultures and backgrounds.

-Passion for telling stories in creative ways.

-Understanding of message research and how to translate that messaging consistently into compelling stories that resonate with target audiences.

-Proven ability to translate complex policy topics into succinct, compelling, message-driven cross-channel copy that inspires diverse audiences to take action, learn more, or participate in campaigns and activities.

-Experience managing multi-part editorial processes across teams or departments.

-Ability to work on tight deadlines.

-Strong project management, multitasking and follow-through skills.

-Highly organized with excellent attention to detail and accuracy under deadline.

-Experience in content creation, copywriting, editing, marketing, public relations, or similar advertising.

-Experience as a social media strategist who is able to increase brand awareness, followers, and impressions.

-Bachelor's degree preferred, but not required

-3-5+ years of related experience in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, or similar experience (2 years of which must be Social Media focused)
