NYC Homeless Healthcare Fellowship
The NYC Homeless Healthcare Fellowship aims to provide educational and psychosocial support for primary care physicians as they enter careers as homeless healthcare providers. Montefiore-Einstein in partnership with three NYC-based homeless healthcare organizations supports a 12-month training program for early-career primary care physicians interested in providing healthcare in shelter-clinics, mobile units, and/or as part of street medicine teams. Through a combination of mentored direct-patient care, ongoing didactics, and scholarly work, this fellowship offers training that aims to enhance physician skills in relevant content areas including substance use, communicable diseases, sexual & gender-affirming care, trauma-informed care, mental health, migrant health, public health, and advocacy.

NYC Homeless Healthcare Fellowship
This 12-month training program enhances the knowledge and skills needed to provide high-quality care for people experiencing homelessness in New York City. This program has five major components:
Clinical Work
During the fellowship year, the fellow will spend clinical time working alongside experienced homeless healthcare providers delivering shelter-based care, mobile health, and/or street medicine at one of three homeless healthcare organizations.
Education
The fellow will participate in lectures, seminars, & workshops each week, with educational content focused in three domains: Medical Care, Health Systems & Social Services, & Physician Resiliency. Fellows will learn more about Virology, Sexual & Gender-Affirming Health, Addiction Medicine & Drug-User Health, Trauma-Informed Care, Mental Health, Migrant Health, Public Health, and Advocacy.
Mentorship & Clinical Supervision
The fellow will be matched with an experienced homeless healthcare provider for weekly Clinical Supervision sessions during which the fellow will be reviewing complex cases, alternative management strategies, and health system/social service navigation.
Experiential Learning
Each week, the fellow will participate in experiential learning opportunities related to high-yield areas including psychiatry, addiction & drug-user health, and virology. Additionally, the fellow will rotate at the Department of Homeless Services Office of the Medical Director for one day a week for three months.
Scholarly Work
The fellow will work on a scholarly activity which will result in a final presentation as well as a final product, such as a white paper, original article, provider toolkit, and/or abstract for submission to a professional meeting.
Who Can Apply?
The fellowship is open to licensed family-medicine or internal medicine physicians. Physicians must be board-eligible or board-certified.
