The human resources benefits and leave manager provides the highest standards of customer service and leverages their knowledge of best HR practices to support the alignment of the human resources department with the network's people strategy. Reporting to the managing director of human resources, the benefits and leave manager is responsible for implementing all aspects benefits and leave management. As a champion of Ascend's mission, culture, and values, this individual partners with the organization's staff to help navigate benefits and leave inquiries.

Benefits and leave
  • Oversee and administer leave management for all employees ensuring excellent record keeping and strong communication with staff and supervisor
  • Lead and manage Ascend's annual open enrollment process
  • Maintain HRIS to streamline benefits and leave processes, working closely with payroll to ensure timely and accurate processing of benefits and leave management transactions; create and provide HRIS training as required
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state and local laws (FMLA, ERISA, HIPAA, etc.) to create and maintain internal and external facing HR benefits and leave policies, processes, and materials
  • Work with the managing director of human resources and managing director of finance to oversee employee benefits programs and partner relationships
  • Assist with compliance and audits (Form 1094-C, Form 1095-C, 403(b) audit
  • Manage staff inquiries through ticketing system (Zendesk)

Human resources processes and practice

  • Proactively remain up-to-date on best HR practices; develop and provide training to staff as required
  • Contribute to the overall success of the organization by performing other duties and responsibilities as assigned
  • Design and develop new HR processes to improve the efficiency of HR operations and administration and recommend new approaches and procedures to effect continual improvement

Reporting structure

The human resources benefits and leave manager reports directly to the managing director of human resources.


  • A bachelor's degree and five years of relevant human resource experience
  • Strong technical understanding of employee benefits and leave

  • Unimpeachable personal credibility

  • Ability to analyze complex, sometimes ambiguous information and acquire data from multiple sources when solving problems
  • Impeccable written, verbal, and presentation skills, with sharp attention to detail
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment under tight deadlines, navigating systems and an emerging organization of scale and complexity
  • Strong organizational, project management, and process-building skills
  • HR professional certification(s) preferred
