Kizuna is a 501(c)(3) organization based in Los Angeles. Our mission is to build a future for our community through the education, empowerment and engagement of the next generation. We do this through a multitude of programs and other outlets that connect the next generation to the Japanese American and Little Tokyo community. 

Kizuna’s Executive Director is responsible for overseeing the administration, programs, and strategic plan of the organization. Other key duties include fundraising, marketing, and community outreach. The Executive Director is responsible for being the primary representative of the organization to the Kizuna community, including our stakeholders, funders, participants, and volunteers. The position reports directly to the Board of Directors.


Leadership and Management


  • Responsible for implementing Kizuna’s mission and developing the organization’s strategic direction and vision
  • Create Kizuna’s annual operation plan


  • Manage the organization’s finances, investments, and fiscal policies; develop annual budget to be approved by the Board of Directors
  • Responsible for maintaining the fiscal integrity of Kizuna; present updates on annual budget and monthly financial statements to the Board of Directors


  • Responsible for the hiring and retention of staff and contractors
  • Must maintain all official records and documents; ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations
  • Develop and administer human resource policies and practices for the organization

Fundraising & Development

  • Develop and execute fundraising strategy; secure and increase financial support annually
  • Identify, cultivate and solicit all types of donations, including major and planned gifts, individual giving, corporate sponsorships and fundraisers
  • Stewardship of donors and sponsors

Communications & Marketing

  • Serve as community liaison and representative of Kizuna; must represent the values, point of view of Kizuna and its best interest when conducting official business
  • Work in partnership with community groups and organizations; identify engagement strategies and support with the communities Kizuna serves and enhance the organization’s profile
  • Responsible for conceptualizing, developing and facilitating the implementation of external communications and marketing
  • Identify, assess, and inform the Board of Directors of internal and external issues that impact the organization

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university; graduate degree highly desirable
  • Minimum of three years managerial experience in a nonprofit, governmental or for-profit corporate environment
  • Mission driven, ability to enhance Kizuna’s vision and strategic development
  • Experience with donor relations, fundraising strategy and development
  • Strong organizational and management skills
  • Experience with financial management, including planning and maintaining budgets
  • Background in leadership program development preferred

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must have unrestricted authorization to work in the United States
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Must be willing to work in Los Angeles, CA
  • Must be willing and able to travel and work extended hours and on weekends as needed
