Position Summary    

The Visitor Services Manager (the Manager) of Trinity Church in the City of Boston (the Parish) manages the Art and Architecture programs including The Shop at Trinity Church and tour programs. The Manager is involved in all facets of tourism (75,000 visitors yearly) and retail, including a special focus on research and development of new products. The Manager oversees a team of paid part-time staff and volunteer docents. Given that Trinity Church is home to an active parish of the Episcopal Church, the Manager and their team also support various church activities including worship services, concerts, weddings and funerals. 

Essential Retail Shop Duties and Responsibilities    

The position of Manager carries significant responsibility for financial management and day-to-day operations including setting budgets, reviewing financial performance, daily sales record keeping and reconciliation, ongoing maintenance of the budget and overseeing daily deposits and cash reconciliation. The manager is also responsible for all aspects of the POS and inventory control including, buying and maintaining proper levels of stock, pricing merchandise, analyzing sales trends and merchandise display. The Manager will recruit, hire and train a team of sales associates to perform at the highest level of customer service. 

Essential Tour Program Duties and Responsibilities 

The position of Manager oversees all aspects of daily guided, self-guided and audio tour operations, (the proceeds from our tours support historic preservation and Parish operations), scheduling and supervising tour leaders, recruiting and training tour guides, booking and confirming all tour logistics and analyzing tour sales. The Manager promotes our tour program through marketing and advertising including outreach to groups such as colleges, tour companies and guidebook publishers. The Manager maintains relationships with Greater Boston Concierge Association, Back Bay Association, The Boston Preservation Alliance and Trinity Church Art and Architecture Committee. 

Reporting Relationships  

The position of Manager reports to and collaborates with the Director of Finance and HR of the Parish. The Manager maintains open lines of communication with other church ministries, e.g. the Music Department, to ensure collaborative use of this historic space. 

Qualifications 

The ideal candidate for this position will have a minimum of 3 years of retail management experience, superb interpersonal skills, financial management and organizational skills. Attention to detail, creativity and an interest in aesthetics as well as the ability to thrive in a team environment is essential. 

The Manager’s work week currently runs Wednesday through Saturday 9:30am-5pm, approximately 30-32 hours per week. Compensation includes generous benefits.
