The Bank Information Center (BIC) is an independent, non-profit, non-governmental organization based in Washington, DC that advocates for transparency, accountability, sustainability, and inclusion in development finance. We partner with civil society in developing and transition countries to monitor and influence the policies and operations of the World Bank Group and other Multilateral Development Banks (MDB). In partnership with international, regional, and local civil society organizations (CSOs), BIC conducts research and advocacy aimed at reforming and improving MDB policy and practices. BIC is not a part of any MDB and does not receive funding from any MDB or government.

BIC seeks a Senior Associate with experience in issues related to transparency, participation, and inclusion and an interest in International Financial Institutions (IFIs) to support BIC’s work on the MDBs. This person will work as part of BIC’s Social Inclusion team, focused on the impact of IFI projects on historically marginalized groups. Under the direction of the Social Inclusion Director, the Senior Associate will work with our in-country partners to monitor MDB funded projects to understand how well they engage stakeholders and include the voices of marginalized groups. The Senior Associate would then support our partners in sharing their findings and carrying out advocacy aimed at securing improvements to the projects. For this position we are looking for a smart, proactive individual with excellent research, writing, and communication skills. 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Review World Bank project documents for inclusion of marginalized groups, measures related to stakeholder engagement, and other priorities relevant to BIC’s work
  • Work closely with partners in the Global South to monitor World Bank funded projects
  • Monitor World Bank policy, guidance, strategies, and frameworks relating to access to information, stakeholder engagement, and inclusion of marginalized groups
  • Draft blog posts and edit reports written by partners related to BIC’s social inclusion work 

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience working in the non-profit sector
  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline such as (but not limited to) Political Science, Law, Social Science, International Development, Regional Studies, Economics, or Environmental Studies required; Advanced degree in a relevant discipline preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to engage with a diverse range of stakeholders 
  • Interest in issues related to social inclusion, international development, and the International Financial Institutions
  • Superior research skills
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Fluent English and French 
  • No experience with the World Bank or other MDB advocacy is required, BIC will provide training and support in this area.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary between $52,000-$58,000 USD per year depending on qualifications. BIC also provides paid health insurance, generous leave, and other benefits. The position will be based in BIC’s Washington, DC office.
