About Us

International Center on Small Hydro Power (ICSHP) is a public and non-profit institution directly under the auspices of United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), China’s Ministry of Water Resources and Ministry of Commerce. In addition, it serves as the headquarters of International Network on Small Hydro Power (INSHP), an international organization with more than 400 members from 78 countries.

The mission of ICSHP is to promote small hydropower development worldwide. Since its establishment in 1994, ICSHP has trained over 1000 engineers from 60 countries, provided technical consultations, feasibility studies, design, equipment supply and installation on SHP in over 50 developing countries, organized more than 50 international conferences/workshops both in China and abroad, and successfully compiled the first SHP Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) project in China. Through South-South Cooperation activities, China’s practice and experience in SHP have been widely disseminated worldwide.
