The Metropolitan Opera Guild
- New York
70 Lincoln Center Plaza
The Metropolitan Opera Guild was founded in 1935 by Metropolitan Opera board member Mrs. August Belmont to make opera more accessible to the general public. The Guild actively pursues an educational mission that brings students to the Met and opera into the schools through a wide variety of programs. In addition, the Guild publishes OPERA NEWS, a monthly magazine that reports extensively on opera worldwide, and manages a merchandising program that develops and sells opera, dance and music related items. The Guild also offers lectures, a podcast, and custom-designed tours to opera performances in both the United States and abroad through the Members' Travel Program. Today, the Guild has over 40,000 members in all 50 states and many foreign countries.
