Founded in 1887, the Christ Child Society of Washington provides material assistance and services for disadvantaged children including over 3500 welcome bags, annually, for newborns, school based tutoring and early literacy programs in under-resourced schools, and after-school, summer camp, and family services for youth in Ward 8, DC. The Society also manages an upscale consignment shop, the Opportunity Shop, in Georgetown which provides funding for our programs for children and relies on a large corps of volunteers. All of our programs, and the Opportunity Shop utilize volunteers, along with professional staff, to make a positive impact on the families in the Greater DC area who need support.
