About Us

The mission of Community Harvest is to create a locally-rooted and sustainable food system that meets the needs of both low-income communities and farmers in the Washington, DC region. Community Harvest was founded in 1997 on the belief that ALL people should have access to good, healthy food, regardless of one's neighborhood or income level.

Community Harvest programs include the Local Food Alliance which develops community-led farmers markets and stands and identifies new market opportunities for local farmers; Urban Oasis Community Farm and Learning Center which grows produce using organic methods on the campus of St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Southeast Washington, DC; and the Youth Development Program which engages youth in the areas of sustainable agriculture, environmental justice, nutrition, and hunger.
