The Princess Closet was founded in the summer of 2010 a couple of months before prom by Maria Davalos, a mom who wanted to make sure that her daughter and her friends went to prom. The mission continued to ensure that every young lady from any school in Chicago made it to prom. This mission has become a family venture for the Davalos. Maria along with her sisters (Toni & Gina), her daughter and son (Isabel & Jose), her newphew and nieces (Cristian, Vania & Judy).
The mission of the Princess Closet is, through collaboration with organizations, schools and community members, to provide high school young ladies in and around Illinois with free prom dresses, accessories, scholarship money and the chance for a brighter future. The Princess Closet will work together with organizations like Gads Hill Center, Modern Wave Salon, A Common Thread, Aspirations of Life and Think Royally, Inc. to enrich the lives of our young ladies by providing mini workshops that will foster positive self esteem and encourage continuing education.
