VISIONS/Services for the Blind and Visually Impaired

VISIONS promotes the independence of people of all ages who are blind or visually impaired. VISIONS is a nonprofit vision rehabilitation and social service organization that offers direct services, public education, and an audiobook/textbook publications series. VISIONS programs focus on blind and visually impaired persons with special needs including elders, teens in transition from school to work, people with multiple disabilities, ethnically diverse populations, and people whose preferred language is other than English. Based in NYC with a year round residential vocational rehabilitation and training center located in Rockland County (VISIONS Center on Blindness - VCB), NY, VISIONS history dates back to 1868, with services incorporated in 1926. A multilingual and multicultural staff works with over 6000 people annually in individual and group programs. VISIONS at Selis Manor is a community center in Manhattan for blind youth, adults and seniors who are blind. VISIONS innovative senior center, the first one in the nation, operates out of VISIONS at Selis Manor in Manhattan. VISIONS offers workforce, job placement and technology training services. VISIONS also provides support for family members and unpaid caregivers of people with vision loss. VISIONS recently published parent handbooks to assist with the developmental stages and transitions of children and youth with vision loss. All of VISIONS services are free.
