CROSSROADS: Community Partnership for Youth
This agency serves youth between the ages of 10-17 years. Each year thousands of children are referred to the Harris County Juvenile Probation Department for various violations. Most of these youth are involved in non-violent offenses, which, without intervention, could lead to more serious offenses. Most of the youth who become involved in the juvenile justice system suffer from low self-esteem, backgrounds of family strife, parental alcoholism, drug abuse, and physical and sexual abuse. One or both parents may be in prison, deceased, or uninvolved. Sometimes these youth get involved with the “wrong crowd”.
CROSSROADS provides positive role models to these at-risk, pre-delinquent, or delinquent children. Volunteers serve as mentors in a one-on-one relationship one hour a week and offer the guidance and direction in a caring, responsible, mature manner.
