Partner in Health
Partner in Health helps rural Guatemalan communities access surgical care from visiting international medical teams. Both cultural and economic barriers have kept people from obtaining much needed and available surgery. We provide the community development and infrastructure that both the communities and teams lack, creating a bridge between them. Partner in Health employs local representatives, uses local language radio programs, and patient evaluations by North American doctors. We collaborate with the U.S. Peace Corps, Guatemalan Ministry of Health and many other organizations. Over the last three years Partner in Health has assisted over 1,700 people access surgical care. Beginning in 2005 Partner in Health will organize small four person volunteer surgical teams to work for one week in regional hospitals. Medical personnel interested to triage in rural communities or give surgical care should contact Partner in Health.
