About Us

SALAAM Theatre is a not-for-profit professional multi-disciplinary theatre company celebrating South Asian American artistic excellence through creative risk-taking and experimentation that challenges all boundaries, connects all peoples and links all the arts in the spirit of progressive solidarity.

SALAAM Theatre acknowledges and accepts its responsibility as a vital community resource that is firmly committed to sharing the riches of South Asian culture with all theatre audiences. This commitment stems from the belief that the answer to breaking down stereotypes and the walls of prejudice and ignorance lies in understanding our similarities and differences while at the same time realizing, we are all one.

Ultimately, SALAAM Theatre intends to follow the advice of Bertolt Brecht: "Art is not a mirror held up to reality but a hammer with which to shape it."

SALAAM Theatre has also made a pledge to support a wide variety of causes. As Artistic Director, Geeta Citygirl says, "We get arts and activism mixed up" so everything at SALAAM is done in the spirit of progressive solidarity.
