About Us

ISLP is an independent non-profit 501(c)(3) organization with operations based in New York City. Founded in 2000, our mission is to mobilize pro bono legal support to advance just, accountable, and inclusive economic development. Our clients include governments, civil society organizations, and social enterprises located primarily in the Global South. Our work centers on the following intersecting thematic areas: natural resource management; investment, trade, and tax; community-inclusive development; accountability and transparency; and media law and freedom of expression.

ISLP’s work is client-driven; we seek to engage where there is a genuine need for pro bono legal assistance and where we can bring real value to our clients and partners in furtherance of our mission. ISLP’s model is to leverage a global network of volunteer lawyers -- comprising recognized senior experts in their respective fields -- through pro bono engagements that follow the attorney-client model: lawyers provide legal counsel while clients direct development outcomes. ISLP program staff lawyers develop and steward the projects, and continuously cultivate the networks and client relationships that make possible the organization’s work and impact. More information is available on our website: www.islp.org.
