About Us

Haiti Emergency Relief Organization (HERO) is a socio-spiritual movement founded in 2001 and registered in the state of Alabama in 2005. The mission of HERO is to “improve the standard of living for underprivileged children and youth in Haiti. We are working to alleviate the alarming crises in the area of food security, economic development, primary health care, emergency management, and relevant education.”

The statistics are too alarming:

• More than 70 percent of the population do not have jobs • More than 50 percent is illiterate. • Haiti is the third hungriest nation in the world, behind Somalia and Afghanistan. • Dr. Paul Farmer indicated that “health conditions in Haiti are among the worst in the world.” HIV/AIDS kill 30,000 each year and orphans 200,000. It has also aggravated a severe tuberculosis epidemic. • There are only 1.2 doctors, 1.3 nurses and 0.4 dentists for every 10,000 Haitians. • Every Hour – a Haitian child dies of starvation before reaching 5.
