Poecology is an online literary journal for contemporary writing about place, ecology, and the environment. Our mission is to inspire and enhance the understanding of place and the environment through literary arts. We publish poetry, fiction, and nonfiction that meditates human responses to ecological and place-based themes from various perspectives and aesthetics, pushing boundaries and experimenting whenever possible.
In an age of increasing disconnection from the physical world and the myriad communities of people, plants, animals, and topographies, Poecology seeks to revitalize interconnectedness. Beginning with our inaugural issue in 2011, we publish emerging and established writers from around the world in an annual online publication. Throughout the year, we hold literary events in the greater San Francisco Bay Area where the journal is based. In the near future, our website will offer resources such as essays, audio features, and educational content.
