Shakti Youth Project
What We Believe Shakti Youth Project is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that EMPOWERS youth from different backgrounds, cultures, and communities by CONNECTING them with each other and with positive adult role models. We believe that peace and sustainable growth in communities is possible when as individuals we break through our own perceived limits, biases, and personal misconceptions to find wider self and global awareness. By doing this, we inspire ourselves and the youth and communities around us to CREATE a world we want to live in.
What We Do We are dedicated to creating opportunities to youth for personal growth, cross-cultural connection, and exploration through the practice of yoga, meditation, travel, and service. During the 2014-2015 school year, we are currently runnin gprograms in partnership with local schools in Arlington and the court system. We are also running weekly classes at the Northern Virginia Juvenile Detention Center, in Alexandria. We also partner with locals and NGOs in Nicaragua to empower youth in the Jiquilillo community and run 2x/year service & yoga retreats.
Who We Are We are educators, psychologists, public relations specialists, yoga teachers, and artists: people from every age and walk connecting on our common values and ambitions. Please look over our website and join us as a teacher, a participant in an international service retreat, or share your expertise on our growing Board of Directors. Whatever you do, SYP invites you to take action and connect!
