Massachusetts Environmentalists for Sustainable Population (MESP)
US population is growing by 3 million per year, doubling every 57 years. The Census Bureau estimates that by the year 2050, at present growth rates, we will likely have some one-half billion inhabitants. The population factor is an overarching multiplier for every other environmental problem (e.g., sprawl, global warming, pollution, traffic, overfishing).
The mission of MESP is to reach out to the environmental community about the impact of domestic population growth on the local, national and global environments. We wish to maintain a mutually helpful dialogue on ways to mitigate the environmental impact of growth and the benefits of stabilizing our population level.
