    OUR MISSION: Troost39 Thrift Store is committed to supporting the community of midtown Kansas City and the Troost Corridor. As a retail store, we offer low-priced, high-quality, essential household and personal items. As a non-profit Ministry, we offer assistance to those most in need, by partnering with social service agencies throughout the city. We strive to become a “Beloved Community” envisioned by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., based on justice, equal opportunity and love for one’s fellow human beings, with core values of peace, inclusiveness, and love. We welcome as friends and neighbors all who come to our door.

    About Us

    WHO WE ARE: As a community-based non-profit retail store, Troost39's primary customers are the people who work and live along the Troost Corridor, as well as hobby thrifters, pickers, and resellers from the KC area - many of whom shop with us daily. Troost39 is a safe place where people of all races, ages, ethnicities, genders, sexual orientations, and physical abilities shop and mingle - and sometimes dance in the aisles!

    HOW WE OPERATE: We operate solely on donations. In fact, all of the merchandise we sell - clothing, household goods, vintage items, antiques, furniture, books, artwork, kitchenware, sports equipment, electronics, small appliances, you name it! - comes to us from generous donors throughout the Kansas City area. The bulk of our business operations is sorting, cleaning, pricing and displaying donations for sale.

    OUR PROGRAMS: Our Voucher Program and Layaway Program are two of the ways we take care of customers who are in need of a little extra help.

    ACHIEVEMENTS: Our greatest achievement is the sense of community and connection that customers feel when they enter our Store.

    OUR GREATEST PRIDE: Staff members who are able to connect with each other and with our customers, making them feel welcome and valued, and providing them with the care, attention and service that builds our Beloved Community.
