About Us

MISSION

Alameda County CASA (ACCASA) was established in 1987 to promote and support quality volunteer advocates to speak for the best interests of abused and neglected children and youth in the dependency court system. Throughout its history, ACCASA has served abused, neglected, or abandoned children by recruiting, training, and supervising adult volunteers who are appointed by a juvenile court judge to speak for the best interests of the child. Advocates aid the judge in making recommendations in the best interests of the children in regular court hearings.

NEXT STEPS

Check out our event page and attend an upcoming Info Session to learn more about the role of a CASA Volunteer and if it is right for you! You are also welcome to begin your application at http://casa_alameda2015.iescentral.com/volunteerapplication.html. After you have attended an Info Session and submitted an application, you are welcome to schedule an interview with one of our Case Supervisors, who will determine if you are accepted into our 30 hour mandated Training Program.

PROGRAM

After a rigorous screening and 30 hours of training, each volunteer is matched with a young person. The volunteer spends approximately 15-20 hours a month meeting with their child, youth or transitioning adult and working on his or her case. We ask volunteers to make a minimum commitment of one year, though the CASA volunteer may stay with each case until it is closed and the child is placed in a safe, permanent home, thus creating an ongoing trusted adult/youth relationship for many children who might otherwise have none. Many volunteers maintain relationships with their young people for years, forging lifelong connections.
