Special Olympics Pennsylvania - Philadelphia
Special Olympics Pennsylvania’s Philadelphia program provides year-round sports training and athletic competition for children and adults in Philadelphia with intellectual disabilities. The program, however, is about more than just sports. Through work in health, education, community building and sports, Special Olympics is addressing inactivity, injustice, intolerance and social isolation by encouraging and empowering people with intellectual disabilities.
The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes, and the community.
