About Us

Supporting children across the United States has long been at the center of our philanthropic work. Our goal is to give children and youth a chance to realize their potential and build a bright future for themselves and the world around us.

The New York Life Foundation today has two distinct grantmaking focus areas in support of this goal: childhood bereavement support and educational enhancement.

Since 2008, we have made a strategic commitment to support and raise awareness of bereaved children and their families – and we are now the largest corporate funder of childhood bereavement support.

The Foundation also honors its longstanding commitment to educational enhancement; over the past four years, our work in this area has evolved to target late middle school as a key transition point impacting children’s educational futures.

As an extension of our grantmaking, New York Life is highly dedicated to promoting local engagement in the communities where our employees and agents work and live. We seek to integrate our financial investments with sustained, company-wide philanthropic activity through volunteer programs, fundraising campaigns, team grant opportunities, and more.

In 2016, the Foundation donated $8.5Million towards Education Enhancement Strategy, $5.9Million towards Childhood Bereavement, and $4.5Million towards workforce philanthropic engagement.
