Latin American Health Institute
The Latin American Health Institute (LHI), New England's premier community based Public Health organization, is a non-governmental professional corporation that promotes the health of the community, its institutions, families and individuals through effective interventions that are culturally competent and technologically appropriate. LHI serves over 33,000 Latin American families and individuals through more than 60 direct care programs, and an additional 2,000 healthcare professionals, para-professionals, and institutions through education, technical assistance, fiscal sponsorship, and program oversight. LHI works with numerous public and private organizations across a range of issues, specializing in maternal and child health , HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted diseases, diabetes, breast and cervical cancer, prostate cancer, hepatitis, substance abuse, mental health, mental retardation, and other developmental disabilities. The core of LHI's public health activities, however, lies not in addressing specific health concerns, but in strengthening families and developing community resources.
