About Us

The Human Animal Bond Research Institute (HABRI) is a non-profit foundation that serves as a rallying point for a growing assembly of organizations and individuals with the common goal of researching the human-animal bond and educating people about the health benefits of companion animals to human health. Among key findings, research has shown that human-animal interaction can have physical and psychological benefits to those with post-traumatic stress; improve social skills among those with autism; provide emotional support for people with depression; and have a protective effect for young children, preventing allergies and boosting their immune systems. HABRI's continuing efforts to fund new scientific research in the areas of child health and development; healthy aging; and mental health and wellness will contribute to a growing body of evidence supporting the presence of companion animals in society.

HABRI's vision is for the human-animal bond to be universally embraced as an essential element of human wellness. HABRI's mission is to establish, through science, education and advocacy, the vital role of companion animals in the health and well-being of individuals, families and communities.
