Unique to Brown's MPA program is an emphasis on experiential learning through two components for the program:
- The Global Policy Experience, a ten-day trip to an international site where students meet with top-level policy actors to explore the political and economic dynamics affecting other nations
- The 12-week “Policy in Action” consultancy, a hands-on, one-credit learning program designed to help students shape and implement an innovative project on-site with a with a client in the nonprofit, public, or private sector.
