About Us

Mokili is an urban garden where street kids learn to grow food and reconnect with the community and nature in a positive way. Our permaculture project aims to get them off the streets, connect them with essential services and help them become self-sufficient. They enjoy the fruits of their labor, while learning skills and interacting with society in a new light.

In the streets of Kinshasa, nearly 20,000 Congolese children fend for themselves. Shockingly, the majority of these children have parents or family. Extreme poverty and a strong belief in witchcraft compel people to blame innocent children for handicaps, misfortune or deaths in the family. Stigmatized and persecuted, street kids face unimaginable living conditions and are deprived of their childhoods and any hope for the future. Mokili aims to meet Kinshasa's street kids most basic need: food security.
