Friends of the Madison Public Library

About Us

The Friends of the Madison Public Library support the Library by fundraising for Library programs and services. We are bookstore, book sales and special events volunteers; Users and Supporters of the Madison Public Library; and Advocates for libraries and the role they play in our communities.

Since incorporation in February 1961, the Friends of the Madison Public Library has been providing volunteer support, advocacy, and supplemental funds for collection development and special projects that the Library could otherwise not afford. Thanks to the proceeds from a thriving Friends Book Store at the Central Library, successful book sales and other special events (like annual meetings), for the past 50 years the Friends have contributed greatly to the Library's programs and services. These contributions include: $100,000 pledge to the Central Library, the Library's Beyond the Page Program; the Library's Summer Reading Program; audiobook collection sponsorship, and many other sponsorships.
