Access Living DJMC

About

DJMC provides a unique opportunity for youth with disabilities, ages 12 to 24, to receive guidance and support from a mentor who cares about disability justice. Disability justice is beyond disability rights---being sure that people have access to society and full inclusion beyond what is the law. In particular disability justice is about furthering the power of people of color with disabilities.

DJMC is accepting applications from all genders, but there is a higher demand for male mentors. Currently, we need male mentors who have a disability or strong disability awareness/education and commitment to inclusion.

What does it take to be a mentor?

* A desire to work with youth with disabilities

* An application and background check

* Attendance at a meeting one Saturday a month at Access

Living

* Contact with your mentee once a month for 4 hours

* A willingness to share your interests, experience, and

wisdom

The minimum commitment for DJMC is four hours per month. This small investment of your time can have a profound impact on the life of a youth with a disability.
