California Governor's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports
The Mission of the Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports is to promote physical activity for all Californians, with an emphasis on children and youth. Research has shown that regular physical activity during childhood and adolescence helps build healthier bones and muscles, increases self-esteem and reduces the risk of diseases such as type-2 diabetes and obesity. Through its efforts, the Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports encourages all Californians to get more active and shines a light on people, organizations and events doing remarkable things to inspire physical activity in their communities.
The Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, www.CalGovCouncil.org, is a non-profit, non-partisan organization with a full-time staff of three persons. In 2007 the California Governor’s Council was selected as the state Council of the Year by the National Association of Health and Fitness.
