The Family Voluntary Services
Family Voluntary Services (FVS) is a small yet active not-for-profit charity organization. We have been providing humanitarian services and participating in a variety of community based initiatives throughout the Eastern Cape since 2000. Some of these projects include food distribution to a children’s home, soup kitchens, clinics, and old folks home as well as prisoner rehabilitation.
We are involved in community development and education in the area of Vergenoeg where our work consists of upgrading the education facilities of the existing creche which is an extension of our orphanage. The orphanage houses 25 children from 1 to 18 year old's. The creche services 60 children from the surrounding community.
Twice weekly deliveries of food to a soup kitchen at the municipal medical clinic in the Duncan Village township feeds approximately 100 people in this extremely impoverished area. We also work alongside community volunteers doing home based care of TB and HIV patients.
Our prison rehab program has been running since 1998. Our work is mainly with Juvenile offenders both maximum and medium term. Our finding is that spiritual care is primary in the rehabilitation process and thus we offer weekly Bible studies which are well attended. Our aim is to expand into a skills training and post prison employment program.
