Metropolitan Washington Public Health Association Disparities Committee
The MWPHA Disparities Committee addresses inequalities in health, particularly those caused by racism. We include students, community members, and public health workers. We primarily focus on fighting the HIV epidemic because HIV results from some of the most inequitable conditions in society, such as racism, gender inequality, and stigma against people who are LGBT, drug users, or poor. We conduct community outreach to involve residents in determining how to fight back. Some of our issues include harm reduction, drug treatment on demand, expanded mental health services. We welcome people who want to do outreach, research, or writing. We are an all volunteer group.
