Overview

Serving All Vessels Equally, Inc. (SAVE) is a not for profit community based organization dedicated to the mission of producing transformative change for the youth we serve and the communities they live in.

 Our leadership development and mentoring programs are designed to:

1. Reduce youth and gang-related violence.

2. Empower parents of youth involved in disruptive and violent behavior with tools to guide them toward a more productive “way of being”.

3. Connect clergy leaders with youth in one-to-one relationships.

4. Get truant youth off the street and back into the classroom or into the workplace.

5. Insure that youth graduate high school on time.

Programs:

Check and Connect is a dropout prevention program based on the idea that students need help meeting their academic goals. The program uses mentors to address, deeply and continuously, a student’s performance and record and to arrange services that will help the student succeed. The Check and Connect program’s interventions yield the following outcomes: increases in attendance, persistence in school, accrual of credits and school completion rates with decreases in truancy, tardiness, behavioral referrals, and dropout rates.

Pen(itentiary) or Pencil is an innovative approach to teaching and inspiring youngsters who are struggling through today’s intense social, environment, family and school risks. It involves the creation of a community and school-based history of mass engagement and youth leadership during the Civil Rights Movement. The program is based at Briggs High School and allows students to share their concerns about community and have an open dialog about what needs to be changed.

Youth Council for Justice (YC4J) is a youth-led, adult supported social justice organization that empowers youth ages 8 - 18 to express themselves and to take appropriate action on the issues that affect their lives. Issue awareness forums are conducted at school and advocacy campaigns are initiated to bring the identified concerns to light.
