Fresh Art Inc.
The mission of fresh art, a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization, is to create expanded artistic and personal development opportunities for disadvantaged and underserved adults in New York City through fine art exhibitions and workshops. We raise public awareness and recognition of these artists' work and talents by building partnerships with social service agencies, residences and community groups. fresh art is dedicated to promoting art as a tool for personal expression, creative growth and positive transformation.
fresh art's artists reflect a diversity of under-served groups throughout the city. They are seniors, people with mental illness, physical, and emotional disabilities, HIV and AIDS, in long term recovery from chemical dependencies, homelessness and low income existences.
fresh art's programs are two fold; The Art Exhibition Program curates group exhibitions of artworks created in art programs from NYC social service agencies and supportive housing facilities. The second part of fresh art's programming is the Fine Arts and Crafts Workshop Program that provides art workshops on site at various social service agencies, supportive housing facilities and community groups around the city.
In addition to the Fine Arts Workshops, fresh art offers Sock Monkey Sewing Workshops to homeless shelters and transitional housing facilities. These craft workshops provide the participants with an opportunity to create in community objects that give respite from lives often filled with illness, the struggles of aging and homelessness.
fresh art also has a volunteer program (open to any interested party over the age of 18) of volunteers from all walks of life who gather to hand sew sock monkeys that are sold via fresh art's website (www.freshartnyc.org), local craft fairs and boutiques. The proceeds from the sales of the sock monkeys help support fresh art's programs and services.
