Mt. McGregor College Initiative

The Mt. McGregor College Initiative has been offering free credit-bearing Siena College courses at Mt. McGregor Correctional Facility in order to empower incarcerated students to build a better future for themselves, their families, and their communities since Spring 2010. They have offered more than 20 courses thus far in a variety of subject areas, such as Social Work, Poetry, Economics, and Marketing. Incarcerated students are considered non-matriculated students of Siena College, and Mt. McGregor is considered an extension of the Siena College campus. Instructors unanimously agree that teaching at Mt. McGregor is an extremely valuable, inspiring, and reaffirming experience. The incarcerated students are highly motivated, talented, and grateful for the opportunity to pursue their education.

Siena College is a learning community advancing the ideals of a liberal arts education, rooted in its identity as a Catholic and Franciscan institution. It is a private, residential, liberal arts college located in Loudonville, NY, about 15 minutes north of Albany.

Mt. McGregor Correctional Facility is a medium-security men's prison in Wilton, NY, about 45 minutes north of Albany. It is a relatively small prison, housing approximately 400 men at any given time.
