Teen Voices’ mission is to further social and economic justice by empowering teenage and young adult women. The primary vehicles for accomplishing this mission are: • Teen Voices magazine and Teen Voices online, the nation’s premiere magazine written by, for and about teenage girls. Read by over 60,000 young women, Teen Voices is a powerful antidote to the typical “boys, beauty, and fashion” magazines. It discusses real-life issues, with the message that “you’re more than just a pretty face.” Recent articles have included topics such as eating disorders, spirituality, and teens living in a war zone. • A writing and art forum for teenagers around the world, who are able to submit their articles, stories, poetry and drawings for publication in Teen Voices. Each year, Teen Voices receives hundreds of submissions from girls who are eager to share their voices with their peers around the world. • Mentoring programs for a multi-cultural group of at-risk Boston teens, who serve as the editors of Teen Voices and Teen Voices online. These programs teach writing and editing skills, job readiness, math skills, media analysis, research methods, and life leadership skills. Our programs and publications put a marginalized community of Boston’s youth at the center of worldwide communication and dialogue, providing voices from diverse classes, locales, abilities, ethnicities, and cultures.
