About Us

MISSION:

Our mission is to advance the choral arts through education, performance, and collaboration at the highest artistic level, fostering individual development and international relationships.

ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW:

Founded in 1982, the internationally acclaimed Piedmont East Bay Children’s Choir (PEBCC) guides young singers to develop their fullest potential as choral artists. PEBCC provides a music education that enables children to become highly skilled and sensitive musicians, and seeks to broaden their musical horizons on an international scale.

We aspire to be the leader for vocal arts education in the East Bay. We develop performers who compete at a world-class level, and train young minds in teamwork, discipline and collaboration. We achieve this not only by engaging the best choral educators and vocal artists, but also by challenging our performers with innovative new music and collaborative performances with other outstanding performing arts organizations in the East Bay.

Our program:

  • Draws 300 students, ages 4–18, from throughout the East Bay;
  • Provides a comprehensive music curriculum as children progress through a series of training choirs to professional-level performing groups;
  • Has won first prizes and gold medals at prestigious competitions in Europe, Asia, and North America through its annual international tours, in over 25 nations to date;
  • Maintains a vigorous program of innovative music projects, commissions and premieres;
  • Collaborates with outstanding performing arts organizations, including the Oakland East Bay Symphony, Berkeley Symphony, San Francisco Opera, San Francisco Symphony, Volti, Cal Performances, the San Francisco Choral Society, West Edge Opera, and the Mark Morris Dance Group;
  • Hosts the Golden Gate Festival, an international weeklong choral festival and competition, triennially:
  • The 11th Golden Gate Festival took place July 2018, and remains the only regularly held international youth choral competition in the United States;
  • More than 4,200 young musicians, from 72 choirs and 23 countries have participated since its founding in 1991;
  • More than 60,000 audience members have supported the festival.
