Business Women's Initiative against HIV/AIDS
As a U.S. based initiative of the Global Coalition on Women and AIDS, the Business Women's Inititaive against HIV/AIDS was formed by Mary Robinson (former UN High Commissioner on Human Rights and former President of Ireland), and Dr. Mary Ann Leeper (Chair of the Female Health Foundation which produces and distributes the female condom). We are dedicated to mobilizing women business leaders to exert their influence and utilize their skills, relationships and resources to empower women and girls in the developing world to fight the HIV/AIDS pandemic.
Women in positions of power in the business world have the capacity to analyze a problem, develop the strategy to deal with it and implement the action. It is indisputable that, through leadership and commitment, the unique abilities of corporate women could fill a critical gap in helping to bring HIV/AIDS prevention, care and treatment programs to women and girls in the developing world. At BWI we recognize that time is a precious commodity for professional women and it is our goal to provide the support these women need to become engaged and make a true difference in the lives of our sisters overseas.
