New Orleans Cooperative Housing Association
The New Orleans Cooperative Housing Association (NOCHA) was founded to advance the cause of education and community by providing inexpensive, non-discriminatory board and lodging for local university students. We hope to provide a service so that those who otherwise might not be able to continue at a university, due to limited affordable housing availability, may enjoy the fruits and the benefits of higher education regardless of race, nationality, sexual orientation, disability or belief.
NOCHA was conceived at the end of 2005 after hurricane Katrina devastated the student housing market in New Orleans. The organization officially incorporated in 2006 and is working in co-ordination with the Louisiana Women's Network, a federally recognized 501(c)3 as well as North American Students of Cooperation (NASCO), and the Rebuilding Louisiana Coalition. This project is a collaboration between these groups and also many interested and active local individuals.
