Grupo de la Comida - San Francsico, CA
Grupo de la Comida began in August of 1985 in response to the need for food in the Central American refugee community. We current feed 1800 refugees per week, now also including refugees from Mexico and South America, China, Russia, the Ukraine, the Philippines, and Iraq, and are a nonprofit project of BACPAJE (the Beth Abrams Center for Peace, Arts, Justice and Environment). Approximately half of Grupo’s clients receive a weekly food box. The weekly food box population is disproportionately single mothers with young children and the elderly. Without this food, our clients would be forced to user their meager resources for food, rather than rent, joining the increasing San Francisco homeless population.
