About Us

The Rafael Hernández Two-Way Bilingual School is a city-wide Boston public school that serves 390 students in grades pre-K through 8th grade. Located in Roxbury, it is internationally recognized as one of the premier two-way language schools in the United States - all subjects are taught in both languages in every grade. Most children enter the school with one primary language – either English or Spanish – and graduate fluent in both.

The school's nonprofit affiliate, Friends of the Hernández, funds and directs the After School program (HASP), which currently serves 130 Hernández students. The program runs from 3:10-6:30 five days a week and offers enrichment programming in the areas of creativity, physical play, homework support, and social/emotional support including: African dance, yoga, karate, drumming, individual tutoring, Peace Through Play, Jumpstart, and Sole Train.
