About Us

Rising for Justice, formerly know as DC Law Students in Court, was created to: provide legal representation and assistance to low income persons in DC who cannot afford attorneys, and to provide third-year law students with a high quality clinical education experience in which to learn lawyering and litigation skills.

A third part of our mission is to assist the D.C. Superior Court system where low income persons without counsel are at a severe disadvantage in the legal system, in particular, facing eviction or as a respondent in a Civil Protection Order or Anti-Stalking Order case. And lastly, our program works to enlarge the number of attorneys to help the disadvantated by providing training and mentoring in the areas of our expertise: housing, landlord and tenant.

Rising for Justice is a non-profit legal education/legal services program associated with five major District of Columbia law schools, American, Catholic, Howard, Georgetown and George Washington. It has provided free legal services to low-income clients with cases arising in D.C. courts and agencies, and provided third-year law students with a high quality introduction to the skills of lawyering and advocacy for 46 years. The program represents and/or assists approximately 6,000 people each year.
