Manhattanville’s School of Professional studies offers classes with industry-driven content taught by business professionals in small and highly interactive seminar settings. Our students not only gain new pathways to achieve higher earning potential through the breadth of degrees that are offered, they are able to capitalize on the school’s extensive faculty and alumni network.

MFA in Creative Writing

Manhattanville offers Master of Fine Arts degree with thesis tracks in Fiction, Creative Nonfiction, Poetry, Screenwriting, and Graphic Narrative. The Graphic Narrative track is among the first of its kind offered in the US and draws on the talents of artists and professionals in that industry. All MFA faculty are published authors with outstanding reputations in the literary world. The academic program is designed for maximum flexibility so that students may complete it while maintaining a work-life balance; courses are offered in the evenings and on weekends, and part-time students have the option to complete the two-year degree using as many as five years. We award teaching fellowships with full scholarships to two qualified students each year and we offer an MFA+Advanced Teaching Certificate program in conjunction with the School of Education. The program is residential, and students have the option of living on campus in graduate housing in a unit known as “The Writers Block.” The MFA program offices and classrooms are all located in a specially designated building, “Barat House,” which is a major distinguishing feature of our MFA program.

Extra- and co-curricular special events organized by the MFA Program include our Meet the Writers series, which brings highly regarded authors and poets to campus; recent guests have included Pulitzer Prize and National Book Award winners. Other notable offerings include numerous non-credit and weekend workshops and events through “The Writers’ Hub;" our Summer Writers’ Week and a Fall Writers’ Weekend, each featuring special guest faculty; and our Food Justice conference in the fall. All MFA events are open to the public and designed to raise our profile in the community.
