MILK San Diego is a nonprofit organization aimed at supporting and promoting breastfeeding across San Diego County.
All families deserve a positive breastfeeding experience.
WHO (World Health Organization) and AAP (American Academy of Pediatrics) strongly recommend exclusively breastfeeding for the first six months of life. However, the CDC (Center for Disease Control) 2013 Breastfeeding Report Card reveals that only 27% of mothers in California are currently able to achieve this. Additionally, AAP guidelines recommend continued breastfeeding to at least 12 moths of age, while WHO advises breastfeeding up to two years and beyond.
Although the majority of mothers intend to breastfeed their babies, a small minority are getting the support they need in order to experience the beautiful, beneficial art of breastfeeding.
At MILK we believe that every family deserves the right to feed their infants and toddlers as they instinctively choose. By providing lactation education and counseling to expectant, new, and experienced mothers and their families, as well as information on local resources, we strive to help more families find the support they need.
Through a combination of trust in their own abilities and supportive education, all mothers can enjoy the learned art of breastfeeding their children.
