ABOUT MCD

Medical Care Development (MCD) is a global public health not-for-profit organization incorporated in the state of Maine, with a MCD Public Health (MCDPH) Division based in Augusta, Maine that operates across the United States, and a MCD International (MCDI) Division based in Silver Spring, Maryland that operates in more than 15 countries in Africa, Latin America and Asia.

Founded in 1966 as a physician-led initiative bringing higher quality health care to the rural population of Maine, including emergency medical services and academic medicine, its current focus in the United States is on public health programming that spans and connects population-based and individual health care improvement. MCD expanded into international public health starting in 1977 with the creation of the International Division. Since then, MCD has evolved into a worldwide public health organization recognized in the US and globally for excellence and commitment to the communities we serve. MCD's vision is to design and implement creative, effective programs that achieve measurable improvement in health status and quality of life worldwide. MCD seeks to do this through partnerships with communities, organizations and governments, by developing and operating creative, compassionate and practical programs, and by providing technical advice and assistance to enhance the capacity of others. In all that we do at MCD, our aim is to maximize impact by leveraging data from monitoring and evaluation for effective decision-making, and by championing new and innovative solutions for unmet needs.

MCD's strength is in its highly dedicated employees who leverage their considerable expertise and experience, their global and multi-cultural perspectives, their dedication to quality and cost-effectiveness, their capacity to use and interpret data for informed decision-making, their commitment to serving the underserved, and their compassion and respect for others. MCD's staff never fail to go the extra mile to accomplish our goals and to effectively support and work alongside those we serve.

MCD is dedicated to continuous improvement of our processes, competencies, infrastructure and leadership capacity to better fulfill our mission, to continuously increase the scope and scale of our work and ultimately, to deliver better health and quality of life outcomes to more people and populations in need.

Funded by U.S. federal and state agencies, foreign governments, global health and multi-lateral organizations, private corporations and foundations, and the contributions of individuals, MCD is grateful to partner with many dynamic and dedicated organizations and individuals, both in the US and around the world. Governed by a highly participative all-volunteer Board of Directors, MCD is careful and deliberate in assuring the best possible use and stewardship of funds entrusted to us.
