BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Brief History of the Organisation:

The Prakash Shikshan Prasarak Sanstha (PSPS) is a non-governmental organisation. It was established in 1985, basically to assist women in earning some money by training them in courses like tailoring, crafts, balwadi courses, etc. Mr. Prakash Yadav is the founder member of PSPS. Its activities are basically concentrated in the Tasgaon and Palus Tehsil of Sangli District in Maharashtra State. Although PSPS’ main focus is one rural women, it has also undertaken various activities for youth, AIDS patients, old persons and most important the children. It is now working in 10 villages of the Tasgaon tehsil, and its present focus is on the development of the women and children belonging to the nomadic tribe called Nandiwale and the Gosawi.

Maharastra Government. 2004 This activity also does not receive support from any funding agency and it is running on its own sources. 5. Goat Project. Action for Farm & Agricultural Renewal in Maharashtra 2002-2004 It is covered by two villages & population of nomadic tribes having 2000 6. Against Commercial Sexual Exploitation & Trafflcking SOS & Netset Mumbai 2002-2004 It is covered by Tasgaon & Palus Tensil & having population 7000 7. Panchayat Raj Programme- Janapath Vikas Manch 1995-2004 It is covered by 4 villages & having population 4000

8. Self-Helf Group. Own Source 2002-2004 It is covered by 8 villages & having population 6000 9. Balwadi (Kinder Garten) Programme Own Source. 1999-2004 In this programme young women from rural parts of Sangli and Kolhpur District were trained in Balwadi teaching course ,through this programme more than 2000 rural women were trained and were able to get job as balwadi teachers. 10. Non-formal education. Maharastra Government. Since 2001 It is covered by 2 villages & having population of nomadic tribes are 2000

Central Social Welfare Board Through this programme 70 Women from Bhilawadi-station. & Julewadi the town were helped in finding employment. 2002-2003 6 Balwadi Teacher’s Training Course Own Sources Through this programme 2500 rural women were trained inBalwadi Teacher’s Training Course 1990-2004 7 AIDS Control Programme for women. Own Sources More than 3000 people were counselled and were given guidance. Central Social Welfare Board Through this programme 55 Women from Wanjarwadi.were helped in finding employment. 2001-2002 11 Mother NGO,S Reproductive and Child health Programme Govt. of India Sevadham Trust, Pune Through this programme 20000 Women from Tasgaonwere helped in finding employment. 1999-2004 12 Implementation of Information Education and Communication scheme of Indian System of Medicine & Homeopathy Sevadham Trust, Pune This programme was organised in Tasgan Taluka and it is directed to make the community aware about the 45,000 Indian Medicine system and Homeopathy. 1999-2003 13 Awareness Generation Project for Rural & Poor Women. We have solved out about 50 cases related to women, teenage girls, etc. 2002-2004 21 Trysem Panchayat Samiti Through this programme 200 womens were benefit. & were giving styfund. 1984-1994 22 Backward class Development Programme. Through this programme 100 Women & youth from Tasgaon & paluswere helped in finding employment. 1984-1997 23 Nehru Rojgar Yojana The Municipal Council of Tasgaon. Through this programme 50 youth from the tasgaon town were helped in finding employment. 1990-1996 24 Women Awareness Programme, Tasgaon Tal-Tasgaon Dist-Sangli. Central Social Welfare Board (Government of India ) This project was implemented in Twelve villages and over 1100 rural women were made aware about the legal status, government schemes for women, educational rights for women. 1991--1992 25 Women Awareness Programme, Yelavi Tal-Tasgaon Dist-Sangli. Central Social Welfare Board Through this programme 50 youth from Yelavi the were helped in finding employment. 1991-1992 26 Women Awareness Programme, Nimni Tal-Tasgaon Dist-Sangli. Central Social Welfare Board Through this programme 75 youth from Nimni the were helped in finding employment. 1992-1993 27 Milk Project. Central Social Welfare Board Through this programme 28 womens were helped in finding employment. 1995-2000 28 Day Creches Central Social Welfare Board Through this programme 1800 childrens were supplied nutrition & education. Since 1992 29 Short Term Training course Own source Through this programme 1370 rural women were trained in Short Term Training course Since 1980 30 Zunka Bhakar Kendra Central Social Welfare Board Through this programme 20000 peoples were supplied nutrition. 1996-1998 31 Eye operation for old age Tasgaon & Palus Taluka. Help – Age India. New Delhi In this programme over 2000 old persons eyes were checked and out of these 500 were operated. ---- 32 Awareness Building Programme for Rural Women Tasgaon & Palus Taluka. Central Social Welfare Board Through this programme 1000 Rural Women from Tasgaon & Palus Taluka. the were helped in finding employment. 1999-2000 33 Awareness Building Programme for Rural Women. Central Social Welfare Board Through this programme 40 women from Brahmanandanagar the were helped in finding employment. 1993-1994 34 Embroidery & Fancy Women Work (Norad) District Council of Sangli Like the tailoring course, this activity also does not receive support from any funding agency and it is running on its own sources.
